Wilma Lavern Farrell

Wilma Lavern Farrell, 89, of Hume, Mo., passed away at her home following a lengthy illness of kidney and Parkinson's disease. She was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Henry Township, Vernon County, Mo., to George Tyre and Alberta Mae (Catherwood) Ransom.

She attended Wolf School during grade school, then later attended and graduated from Metz High School, in 1937. On May 19, 1937, she married her high school sweetheart of several years, Bernard C. Farrell, in Butler, Mo. May 19, 2009, they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Lavern spent the majority of her life on the same farm she was born and reared on, in Henry Township, in the Metz area. She was a perfectionist in her sweing and quilting, making many cherished gifts for her daughters and granddaughters. She loved reading, gardening, canning and was noted for her outstanding cooking ability. She served on the Underwood Cemetery board serving as president for a number of years and was a member of the Hume Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband Bernard C. Farrell; two daughters, Sheila Morgan and husband Robert, of the home, and Colleen Reed and husband Tom, of Rich Hill; four granddaughters, Anita (Reed) Byers and husband Steve, of Nevada, Lori (Reed) Mabe and husband Tom, of Kansas City, Kan., Lesley (Morgan) Cochran and husband David, of Round Rock, Texas, Rhonda (Morgan) Yarick and husband Steve, of Rich Hill; two stepgrandsons, Preston Morgan and wife Rainey, of Weaver, Ala., and Doug Morgan and wife Chris, of Memphis, Tenn.; 11 great-grandchildren, Matt Byers, Alyssa Byers, Allison Mabe, Kyle Mabe, Luke Cochran, Alec Cochran, Leah Cochran, Abigail Yarick, Hope Yarick, Deborah Yarick, Rebekah Yarick; seven stepgreat-grandchildren, Melissa Morgan, Michell Morgan, Matt Morgan, Victoria Morgan, Elanis Morgan, Aunna Morgan, and Joshua Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.

Pastor Ed Sneed will conduct funeral services Friday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m., at Hume Christian Church. Burial will follow in Underwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitations today from 7-8 p.m., at Heuser Funeral Home, in Rich Hill. Memorials are suggested to the Hume Christian Church and The Kidney Foundation.
