Bruce Logan Karnes, 53, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, in Paola, Kan.

Bruce was born April 24, 1956, in Hoxie, Kan., to Dorrence "Duke" and Arlene Karnes. Bruce grew up in WaKeeney, Kan., where he graduated from Trego Community High School and continued his education at the University of Kansas. On Nov. 25, 1978, in Lawrence, Kan., he married his high-school sweetheart, Deborah "Deb" Rhoades, and eventually moved to Nevada, where he managed the local Best Western Rambler Motel and his wife pursued a career in gifted education. Bruce was an avid reader, loved science fiction and building models, scuba, animals and children.

He is survived by his parents; brother Thaine "Tony" Karnes, Eureka, Calif.; sisters Lynn Karnes, Gladstone, Mo. and, Deborah L. Rhoades Karnes (Nevada); nine nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Curtis Karnes.

Bruce's ashes will be buried next to his brother in Hoxie, Kan., Memorial Day weekend. For more information on the memorial services, please contact his parents.
