Glenda Joan Rives, 65, Nevada, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a bout with cancer. She was born Dec. 7, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Walter Dale Butterfield and Mildred Elaine Stark Butterfield. She married John P. Rives on July 9, 1966, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death in 1997.

Joan was a 1963 graduate of Nevada High School. She lived in various places while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. They came back to Nevada in 1987. She was a volunteer for the women's auxiliary at Nevada Regional Medical Center and also volunteered at Moss House in Nevada. Joan was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include four children, John P. Rives II and his wife Val, Kennewick, Wash., Steve Rives and his wife Susan, Louisburg, Kan., Dana Boultinghouse and her husband Randy, Nevada, and Mark Rives and his wife Jenny, Nevada; 12 grandchildren, Jordan Joyner, John P. Rives III, Abigail, John, Noah, and Grace Rives, Cody, Ty, and Justin Boultinghouse, Melanie, Conagher, and Audrey Rives; three sisters, Elaine Mullins, Karen Stevenson and Carol Lyons, all of Nevada; two brothers, Darrel Butterfield and his wife Sharon, Des Moines, Iowa, and Kenny Butterfield and his wife Becky, Nevada, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Jim Butterfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 5, at the First Christian Church in Nevada with the Rev. David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until 9:30 a.m. on Friday, and the family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., on Thursday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
