Virgil D. Driver, age 89 of Milo, died on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Mo., following a short illness. Virgil was born on April 27, 1921, in Nevada, to Judson and Mary Rapp Driver. On Sept. 16, 1969, he was married to Barbara Timbrook and she survives of the home.

Virgil spent time in both Nevada and Carthage while growing up. Virgil served for six years (1939-1945) in the United States Army. During World War II, he spent time in Europe and Africa and received the Purple Heart. Following his service in the U.S. Army Virgil returned to Nevada. Virgil served a number of years as a police officer for the Nevada Police Department during the 1950s. He later went to work for Joseph Pohl Construction where he worked for more than 20 years. He then worked for the Nevada State Hospital for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1983. Virgil has lived in Milo for the past 50 years.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, of the home; three children, Carol Stroud and her husband Neal, of Milo, Dennis Timbrook and his wife Brenda, of Nevada, and Jeffrey Timbrook and his wife Tonya, of Milo; eight grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 29, at the Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada with the Rev. Robert Burk officiating. Interment will follow in the Milo Cemetery, Milo, with full military honors.

Friends may call from now until 8 p.m. on Friday evening at Ferry Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at 6 p.m., Friday with the family receiving friends until 8 p.m.
