Carl Richard Worthington, age 84, resident of Presbyterian Village, Fort Scott, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Mercy Health Center. He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Xenia, Kan., the son of Lester Coy Worthington and Zula Walker Worthington. He was a 1942 graduate of Moran High School. Carl married Irene Lucille Young on Sept. 18, 1943, in Moran, Kan. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2004. In his earlier years he worked for the railroad, he owned his own farm and owned and operated his service station in Bronson. He was a member of the Bronson United Methodist Church, 50-year member of the Bronson Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Bronson Ruritan Club. He loved to travel with his wife, especially to Colorado.

Survivors include a son, Mike Worthington and wife Leana, Nevada; three daughters, Betty Worthington, Fort Scott, Karen Foster and husband Dick, Coffeyville, Kan., and Linda Marsh and husband Galen, Minot, N.D. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Wayne Warren and wife Shelly, Mike Warren and wife Donna, Ashley Coy Worthington, Tammie Miller and husband Brad, Shannon Worthington and wife Tanya, Matthew Marsh and wife Jessica, and Jacob Marsh and wife Samantha; six stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Raymond Worthington.

The Rev. Rusty Newman will conduct graveside services at 10:30 a.m., Friday, in the Moran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cheney Witt Fort Scott Chapel from noon Tuesday until noon Thursday. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, in the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel.
