Kenneth R. Hammar, 76, Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at the Girard Medical Center. He was born April 1, 1934, in Burton, Kan., the son of Lucian Hammar and Alice Brown Hammar. Kenneth had served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He had farmed for many years and had also hauled livestock. Kenneth enjoyed horses as well as hunting. In his earlier years, he had trained hunting dogs. He was a member of the Hiattville Masonic Lodge and had attended the West Park Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Hammar, Tulsa, Okla. and Peggy Johnson and husband, Mike, Fort Scott; a sister, Arthella Hammar, Hutchinson, Kan.; a brother, Terry Hammar, Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Michaela, Samantha, Christopher and Katrina. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Katherine Hammar of Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Kendra Hammar, a sister, Ardith Leibst and a brother, Larry Hammar.

The Rev. Reed Hartford will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Hiattville Masonic Lodge. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS.
