William Lester Reed

William Lester Reed, 86, Fort Scott, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home. He was born March 5, 1924, in Pittsburg, Kan., the son of William Reed and Olive Page Reed. Bill married Dora Lee Harbison on Sept. 15, 1947, in Girard, Kan. He retired from K&K Auto Parts following 36 years of employment. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Army. Bill was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Lee Reed, Medicalodge; one son, Michael Allen Reed, Gridley, Kan.; a granddaughter, Lisa Ann Heape and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special friend, Jessie Wiggans. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gary Wayne Reed.

The Rev. Dale Cummins will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m., Tuesday, until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to either VFW Post No. 1165 or the American Cancer Society and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
