Harold Wesley Davis, 88, Fort Scott, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott. He was born Feb. 21, 1922, the son of Ernest Edd Davis and Haskell Mary Hayse Davis. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Georgia Fay Rourk on Nov. 27, 1949. She preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 2004. After working on the farm with his father, he left to find work in town. During that time he worked for the Fort Scott Greenhouse, Railway Express, the Post Office, Zepher Awning Company, and for various construction companies. Harold worked for the Fort Scott Community College as their custodian from 1958 until his retirement in Aug. of 1986. He was a past volunteer for the Old Fort Genealogical Society. He loved to read books and especially his Bible. He was an avid gardener, growing just about everything possible in this climate at one time or another. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as an usher for many years. Harold will be remembered as a wonderful example of a Christian husband and father.

Survivors include one son, Dan Davis and wife, Kathy, Fort Scott; one daughter, Karla Stevens and husband, Dean, Nixa, Mo.; five grandchildren, Valetta Cannon and husband, Jason, Tim Davis and wife, Colette, Sam Davis and wife, Baily, Brett Stevens, and Patrick Scott Stevens and wife, Kitty; and six great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Bernard Douglas Davis; one brother, Floyd W. Davis; and two sisters, Edna Lucille McFarland and Lillie Stark, as well as his parents.

The Rev. Tim Davish will conduct funeral services for Harold Davis at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, in the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott.
