James W. Garrison, 69, of Joplin, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., following a brief illness.

James was born on Aug. 26, 1941, to Paul and Mona Garrison of Monett, Mo.

James spent his youth in Ulysses, Kan., graduating from Ulysses High School in 1959. While there, he met and later married Paulette Mae Klein. Together they had three sons. The family moved to Pittsburg, Kan., where James graduated from KSCP (now Pittsburg State University) with a degree in Business Administration in 1963. James was employed by the Western Insurance Company of Fort Scott, Kan., subsequently American States Insurance and Safeco Insurance for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2001, as a Divisional Claims Supervisor.

In 1971, James married Patricia E. Locke Sheehy, in Fort Scott, Kan. There they raised their sons, James, Jon, Jeff and Jeffrey. James was preceded in death by his wife, Paulette; his parents, Paul and Evelyn Garrison, and Clay and Mona Lamberson.

James is survived by his wife, Patricia of the home; four sons, James A. Garrison of Phoenix, Ariz., Jon B. Garrison and wife, Marianne, of Pittsburg, Kan., Jeffrey W. Garrison and wife, Barbara, of DeSoto, Kan., and Jeffrey G. Locke of Arma, Kan.; siblings, Joe P. Garrison of Ulysses, Kan., Jack D. Garrison of McKinney, Texas, Gail R. Reed of Wheaton, Mo., Cynthia Morgan of Arkansas, Carol Adams of Nebraska, and Ted Garrison of Florida; nine grandchildren, Dr. Joseph R. Garrison DPT and wife, Bridget, of DeWitt, Iowa, Christina M. Adams and husband, Bryan, of Leavenworth, Kan., Jacob D. Garrison and fiancé, Danielle Fuller, of Tulsa, Okla., Joshua M. Garrison of Pittsburg, Kan., Cole A. Oberg of DeSoto, Kan., and Megan, Matthew, Morgan and Mason Locke of Houstonia, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Elliot, Macie, Nora, Bryce and Jonathan. Along with other relatives and friends.

Liturgy of the word and Rosary Service will be held at Parker Mortuary 1502 S. Joplin Street, Joplin, Sunday, 7:30 p.m., with visitation to follow.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 812 S. Pearl Street, Joplin.

Interment will be at St. Michaels' Catholic Cemetery, Fulton, Kan.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the Outreach House of St. Peter Catholic Church, Joplin, c/o Parker Mortuary.
