Carl Leslie Beerbower, 78, lifelong Fort Scott barber and resident, died early Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Mercy Health Center. He was born Oct. 21, 1932, in Fort Scott, the son of John Henry Beerbower and Ivy Myrtle Key Beerbower. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954. He married Waneta Johnson on June 14, 1956, at the Cherry Grove Baptist Church. Carl worked as a barber in Fort Scott for 55 years. He was a lifetime member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Past Master of the Memphis Lodge No. 108 at Garland, lifetime member of the Fort Scott Scottish Rite, Mirza Shrine at Pittsburg, Kan., and a member of the Elk's Lodge. He served as aide to two Shrine Potentates. He greatly enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Waneta, of the home; one daughter, Marilyn Beerbower, Fort Scott; and two brothers, Nole Beerbower and Earl Beerbower, both of Fort Scott. Also surviving is special friend Cody Mitchell, Fort Scott; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Clyde, Lawrence, Cecil, Clarence, Albert and infant Johnny Beerbower; five sisters, infant Esther Mae Beerbower, Mabel Dotson, Ellen Lattimer, Lela Uptergrove and Beatrice Wallace; and his parents.

The Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct graveside services for Carl Beerbower at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29, in the U.S. National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
