Michael Lee Beattie, 54, passed away suddenly Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo. He was born Nov. 7, 1956, to Joe Arthur Beattie and Kathryn Louise Schroeder Beattie in Tulsa, Okla. He married Penny Jo Anna Laflen on Dec. 28, 1979, in Moundville, Mo.

Mike attended schools in Washington, Mo., Tulsa, Okla., and Kaysville, Utah. He graduated from Missouri Southern State College in May 1982. He worked in the Joplin area at Commerce Bank, Ozark Airlines, Southwest Missouri Bank and Miracle Recreation in Monett, Mo.

Mike enjoyed watching Bronaugh basketball, particularly when his four nephews were playing. He was also a die-hard Arizona Cardinals fan from the time that they were in St. Louis to their present location in Arizona. Golf was a family tradition with Mike. He learned to golf from his father, grandmother Schroeder and his aunt Ramona. He thoroughly enjoyed golfing with his brother-in-laws, Bob, Herb and John, and especially with his four nephews. Mike loved to travel through the various states -- with his golf clubs along for the ride!

In addition to his wife of 30 years, he is survived by his two brothers, Joe Beattie and his wife, Jeanne, of Tulsa, Okla., and Paul Beattie and his wife, Janna, of Edwardsville, Ill.; many brothers-and sisters-in laws; 21 neices and nephews; two childhood friends, Daryl Fleer and Michael Kitchen; and numerous other good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Kathryn Beattie, and two aunts, Ramona McClain and Helen Freidrichs. He will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends, and co-workers.

The family will receive friends at the Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Jerald Bass officiating. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery, Milo.
