B.R. "Blackie" McFall, 86, resident of Presbyterian Village, formerly of Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Girard, Kan., the son of Bertie Reynolds McFall and Ollie Allison McFall. He married Lena Ruth Hewett on June 23, 1944. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1998. He later married Lucy Pyle on July 9, 2001, in Fort Scott.

Blackie worked as an accountant for the Western Insurance Company for 44 years. He assisted in the transfer of the Western to American States Insurance. He was secretary for the Kiwanis Club for 20 years. He enjoyed managing his sons in little league baseball and worked as a referee for both high school basketball and football. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. His hobbies included woodworking and traveling to watch children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in various activities and sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy, of the home; four sons, Bob R. McFall and wife, Connie, Aloha, Ore., John McFall and wife, Regina, Olathe, Kan., Brent McFall and wife, Gail, Westminster, Colo., and Brian McFall and wife, Carol, Lawrence, Kan.; two step-sons and six stepdaughters. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Christy McFall, Manda Christenson, Brett McFall, Jeremy McFall, Clint McFall, Kim Breitenbach, Brandon Jerome, Rebecca Woodson, Josuah McFall, Allison McFall and Mallory McFall; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Elbert and Evert Appleberry, Ernest, Paul and Joe McFall; and two sisters, Helen Moser and Florine Sellegren.

The Rev. Paul Babcock will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the First United Methodist Church, Fort Scott. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
