United States Army Specialist Christopher Glenn Stark, 22, of Monett, Mo., was killed in action on Feb. 28, 2011, in COP Tangi, Afghanistan. Christopher was born on Aug. 18, 1988, in Joplin, Mo. Christopher is the son of Teresa (Brown) Stark and the late Jeffrey Allen Stark.

Christopher graduated from Monett High School with the Class of 2007. While in school at Monett he participated in football, basketball, baseball and soccer. He was also among the first group of cadets to launch the JROTC Program at Southwest Area Career Center, in Monett. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, August of 2008. Christopher served with the 63rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion 20th Support Command. He was stationed at Ft. Polk, La. Christopher was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cassville, Mo.

Christopher was preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey Allen Stark. Christopher is survived by his mother, Teresa Stark, of Nevada; one brother, Trenton Stark, of Nevada; maternal grandparents, Max and Maxine Brown, of Webb City, Mo.; and paternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Johnson, of Hemet, Calif. Additional survivors include longtime family friend, CW4 Kirk Little, of Neosho, Mo., serving in Afghanistan, currently at home on leave; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 12, at Jolly Mill Park, eight miles West of Monett on Highway 60, South on Barry Road to Park. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Monett, with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., Friday, at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Christopher can be made to the Christopher Stark Memorial fund in care of the funeral home.
