Cynthia L. "Momma" Smith, 54, of Milo, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Freeman W Hospital in Joplin. Cynthia was born on Jan. 7, 1957, in Kansas City, Mo., to Stephen J. and Betty Lou (Brown) Ruddick. On Oct. 8, 1976, she was married to Richard L. Smith and he survives of the home.

Cynthia grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1975. She later attended Missouri Southern State College. Cynthia worked for the Nevada Public Library for a number of years and for Dr. Bondi in Nevada from 1993-2005. She was a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church where she had been active in the Children's and Youth Ministries of the Church, a former Sunday school teacher, and Vacation Bible School director. She was also active in the Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief, The American Red Cross and was very proud of her involvement with Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief having spent five weeks volunteering there. She was also a long time volunteer with "Stand Down," a non-profit organization benefiting homeless and disabled veterans.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by one daughter, Kim See; one son, Michael Smith; and a grandson, Andrew See. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, with the Rev. Chad Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
