Mary Ellen Poteet, 83, Lamar, Mo., passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born on March 6, 1928, in Anthon, Iowa, to Edwin Walter Prescott and Opal Viola Palmer Prescott. She married James Warner on Oct. 6, 1944, in Anthon, Iowa, who preceded her in death in December 1984. She married Leroy Poteet on Nov. 18, 1992, in Arkansas, and he survives of the home.

Mary spent most of her youth in Iowa. She came to Missouri several years after marriage and spent the rest of her life here. She was a homemaker and also a seamstress by trade and, a member of the Milford Christian Church. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was deeply loved in return.

In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, James Eugene Warner, Weir, Kan.; three daughters, Marion Elaine Bernard, Collinsville, Okla., Opal Marie Mooney, Sheldon, Mo., and LaVonne Irene Beatty, Blue Springs, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Ellen Annette Choszczyk, Paonia, Colo.; and one sister, Patsy Irene Maddox, Cherokee, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her first husband she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ancil Edwin Prescott, Edwin Eugene Prescott, James Robert Prescott and Charles Daniel Prescott; one sister, Ruth Marion Dicus; and one stepson, Roy Poteet.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 1, at Ferry Funeral Home with Cliff Hazzard officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., Thursday, March 31, at the funeral home.
