Leo William Scott, 90, Wichita, Kan., formerly of Nevada, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita, Kan., following a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Liberal, Kan., to John Scott and Nellie Phillips Scott. He was married June 1, 1940, in Nevada, to Ruby Hill and she preceded him in death May 18, 2002.

Mr. Scott was born in Liberal, Kan., but came to Nevada at the age of three and spent virtually the rest of his life here. He had resided with his daughter in Wichita since 1999. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of War. He worked at a variety of pursuits, including furniture sales, insurance sales, and also as a security guard at the Nevada State Hospital. He served for many years as a deacon at Pine Street Baptist Church. He was a Past Commander of the VFW post No. 1165 in Nevada.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay Schnedler, Nevada, Fay Tracy and her husband, Ron, Wichita, Kan., and Helen Newton and her companion, George Range, Nevada; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse; three infant sisters; two brothers, Everett Shade and Clifford Scott; and one adult sister, Margaret Branstetter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Chad Bailey officiating. Interment will follow, with full military honors, at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family receives friends at the funeral home, Friday, between 6 and 7 p.m.
