Ruby T. Parrish, 97, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Truman Healthcare and Rehab in Lamar, Mo. She was born April 14, 1914, in Vernon County to Carl Fredrick Meyer and Louisa Gross Meyer. She married Darrell Monroe Parrish on July 4, 1940, in Jefferson City, Mo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1952.

Ruby was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. She worked at Main Street Mercy Hospital later known as the Burke Street Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kan., for 29 years, retiring in 1984. Ruby was an avid traveler, including the birthplace of her parents near Munich, Germany.

Survivors include one son, Richard Parrish and his wife, Mary, of rural Nevada; one daughter, Carol Miller and her husband, Chuck, formerly of Sheldon, Mo., and now of Lamar, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Meyer and his wife, Ida Louise, Springfield, Mo., formerly of Fort Scott, Kan.; two nieces and one nephew of the state of California. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake Meyer and Carl Meyer; and two sisters, Freida Griffen and Marie Cloyd.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 9, at Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Mo. The family will receive friends at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, from 10-11 a.m., Friday, prior to the service.
