Lois Ruth Rumfelt

Lois Ruth Rumfelt, 82, Nevada, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born May 20, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., to Charlie Glen Cheek and Ruth Olive Chapman Cheek. She was married Jan. 1, 1965, in Kansas City, Mo., to Dewey Milo Rumfelt and he preceded her in death Dec. 21, 2010.

Mrs. Rumfelt was raised in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated in 1946 from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Mo. She attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo., and graduated there and received her teacher's certification. She taught school for several years before staying home to raise her family. She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Independence, Mo. She and Dewey were long time residents of Fairplay, Mo. They traveled in a motor home for 15 years before coming to Walker, Mo., in 2003 and lived in Nevada for the past year.

Survivors include three sons, Donnie Travis, Houston, Texas, Tracy Travis, Mountain Grove, Mo., and Dewey Rumfelt, Fairplay, Mo.; one daughter, Amy Rumfelt, Nevada; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; one daughter, Velda Joy Rumfelt; one grandson, Joshua Andrew Rumfelt; one sister, Alice Cheek; and one brother, Charlie Cheek.

The family will receive friends at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada, Wednesday, Dec. 21, between 6 and 8 a.m.

A private committal service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, at Lakewood Park Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
