Charles Virgil Guinn

Charles Virgil Guinn, 74, Horton, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., following a brief illness. He was born April 16, 1937, in Summersville, Mo., to Virgil Ray Guinn and May V. Brumfield Guinn. He was married Oct. 18, 1959, in Mount Vernon, Mo., to Genevieve Crain, and she survives of the home.

Mr. Guinn was born in Summersville, Mo., but lived in a variety of locales as a youth. At the age of 14 the family settled in Gainesville, Mo., where he resided for many years. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1955. He worked for many years as a carpenter and then later went back to school and earned a teaching degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1973. He took a teaching job in Lamar, Mo., following his graduation and taught Industrial Arts there as well as schools in Shawnee Mission, and Miller, Mo. He came back to this area in 1997 and has resided here ever since. Charles was a member of the Ohio Street Methodist Church in Butler, Mo. He was also a member if the Masonic Lodge and was a Past Master, the Tri-County Woodcarvers, and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. He was an avid musician and had great passion for it, playing often for the shut-ins in this area. He also taught music.

In addition to his wife Genevieve, survivors include two sons, Brad Guinn, Nevada, Mo., and Jeff Guinn, Arlington, Texas; and four granddaughters, Abby Guinn, Columbia, Mo., Sarah Guinn, Sherman, Texas, Karly Guinn, Maryville, Mo., and Rachel Guinn, Waco, Texas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Stan Guinn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Dave Owsley officiating. Interment will follow at Balltown Cemetery, Horton, Mo.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, Feb. 16, between 7 and 8 p.m.
