Norma Jean Sloniker

Norma Jean Sloniker, 75, Nevada, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born on Friday, Oct. 16, 1936, to James R. Edmonds and Veda Mary Underwood Edmonds. Norma Jean married Edward Call in February 1954, and they had three sons, James E. Call, Randall G. Call and Kenneth E. Call. She later married James W. (Pete) Alexander in June 1971, and he died in 1998. She then married Joe Sloniker Feb. 16, 2002, and he survives of the home.

Norma Jean was born and raised in rural Vernon County, Mo. She worked for many years at various jobs and locations including a laundry mat assistant in Wichita, Kan., reserve deputy sheriff in Sedgewick County, Kan., city police dispatcher in Nevada, switchboard operator at Nevada State Hospital, and X-ray receptionist at Nevada Regional Medical Center, from where she retired in 2002. She was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, embroidering, cooking and canning. She loved her dogs a companions, having many over her entire life. After retirement, she and Joe enjoyed traveling with their camper trailer and boating on their pontoon boat. She and Joe enjoyed fishing together, and their two favorite spots were Stockton Lake and Bennett Springs. She enjoyed going out to eat with friends and family at numerous locations far and wide, celebrating special occasions at Chicken Annie's.

In addition to her husband, Joe, survivors include her father, James "Jim" Edmonds, Horton, Mo.; three sons, James "Jim" Call and his wife, Dixie, Glendale, Ariz., Randall "Randy" Call, Horton, Mo., and Kenneth "Kenny" Call, Nevada; four grandsons, Tony Call, Glendale, Ariz., Jerod Call, Independence, Mo., Clinton Call, Wichita, Kan., Daniel Call, Wichita, Kan.; one great-grandson, Elijah Call, Wichita, Kan.; three stepchildren, Joann and Carmen Schell, Albuquerque, N.M., Steve and Denise Sloniker, Milo, Mo., and Jack and Shelly Ward, Milo, Mo. She was preceded in death by her mother, Veda Mary Underwood Edmonds.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Lawrence Cripps officiating. Interment will follow at Balltown Cemetery, Horton, Mo.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home today, between 7 and 8 p.m.
