Dorothy Deane Wimmer, 91, resident of rural Fulton, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Fort Scott Manor, Fort Scott, Kan. She was born in rural Fulton, Kan., on Dece. 30, 1920, the daughter of Rolf Hurley Dawson and Nellie Edith Ray Dawson. She married Joseph Levi Wimmer on April 7, 1939, in Fort Scott, Kan. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1994. She spent her life helping with the family farm.

Dorothy had also worked as a telephone operator in Fulton, at Key Work Clothes in Fort Scott, and Tower Metal in Fort Scott. She enjoyed sewing, raising chickens, vegetable gardening, especially strawberries, and canning. She also had a love for dogs. She was a long-time member of the Barnesville Friendly Circle Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Newata Kay Thompson and her late husband, Gary, Hume, Mo.; three sons, Ronnie Joe Wimmer and wife Linda, Olathe, Kan., Gary Dean Wimmer and wife, Sheila, Fulton, and Philip Ray Wimmer and wife, Nancy, Fulton; 12 grandchildren, Brian Norton, Bill Thompson, Jeff Thompson, Melissa Payne, Eric Wimmer, Derek Wimmer, Zack Wimmer, Alyssa Wimmer, Ashley Wimmer, Brandi Wimmer, Christi Wimmer and Joseph Wimmer; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Keith Dawson; an infant sister, Virginia Lee Dawson; an aunt, Gazyl Rodgers; as well as her parents.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the Barnesville Cemetery, Fulton, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Bourbon County 4-H and may be sent to the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
