Bertha Woods

Bertha Woods passed away on April 18, 2012, in Colonial Springs Nursing Home in Buffalo, Mo. Bertha was born on Nov. 9, 1919, to Lee and Ollie Stricklin in Boss, Mo.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents and two older sisters, Ina Volner and Eula Smith. She is survived by her husband, Don Woods, of the home; her son, Don Woods Jr., and his wife, Joan, of Bolivar, Mo.; three grandchildren, Chris Woods, and his wife, Cheryl, of Chicago, Ill., Jeff Woods and his partner, Miguel Barrio, of London, England, and Shelley Wheeler and her husband, Andrew, of Columbia, Mo. Bertha had four great-great-granddaughters, Addison, Ella, and Avery Wheeler, and Harper Woods. She is survived by one special niece, Carolyn Patterson and her husband, Danny.

Bertha's two greatest passions in life were her family and the business she co-founded, Woods Supermarkets. Bertha's work ethic was known and respected throughout the supermarket industry. Her strength in helping others achieve their best made her a dear friend to many. Her love and devotion to her family, husband, children, and grandchildren were unwavering. Her quiet devotion to the Lord was always there through her life.

A celebration of Bertha's life will be held Saturday, April 21, at First Baptist Church in Buffalo, Mo. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., at the church, with a service at 11 a.m. A burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar, Mo. Donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to the Buffalo YMCA.
