Betty Ann Bright, 70, Nevada, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2012, at her residence following an illness of several months. She was born Aug. 2, 1941, in Sheldon, Mo., to Joe Coziah Starlin and Dona Veretta Mann Starlin. She was married June 2, 1961, in Bronaugh, Mo., to Arlen Bright and he preceded her in death Oct. 1, 1980.

Betty was born and raised in Sheldon, Mo., and graduated from Sheldon High School. She worked at Nelly Don in Nevada for several years. After her marriage, she was a stay-at-home mother, raising her three children. In 1979, she went to work at the Fram Corporation in Nevada until her retirement. She was a member of the Milo Baptist Church in Milo, Mo. Betty was an avid University of Missouri basketball fan. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include three children, Kevin Bright, Nevada, Lauri Lockwood and her husband, Dale, Nevada, and Marlen Byrd and her husband Fred, St. Joseph, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Darrick Crooks and his wife, Brooke, Lee's Summit, Mo., Dakota Bright, Independence, Mo., Payton Bright, Nevada, Brandon Lockwood, Kansas City, Mo., Jordan Lockwood, also of Kansas City, Justdan Lockwood, Nevada, Fred Byrd III, and Maleah Byrd, both of St. Joseph, Mo.; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Randy Starlin and his wife, Kim, Sheldon; and three sisters, Joyce Hoover and her husband, Marvin, Wichita, Kan., Fran Hilburn and Doris McGrath, both of Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; one infant daughter, Karla Bright; two brothers, Harvey Starlin and Jim Starlin; and two sisters, Tudi Westcott and Shirley Leavell.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Ted Estes officiating.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, July 24, between 6 and 8 p.m.
