Bobby Dean "Bob" Hood, 80, Moundville, Mo., passed away on Aug. 27, 2012, at his home after battling cancer for several months. He was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Charles Newman Hood and Violet Grace Feagins Hood. He was married to Shirley Hatfield Gossett on Oct. 15, 2000, in Moundville, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Bob graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1949. He was a decorated Marine during the Korean War. He assisted with the Boy Scouts for several years when his son was a member. Bob had worked at various jobs over his lifetime. He retired from 3M after 21 years of service. During his life, he remodeled several houses and sold them. Bob loved traveling, camping with his wife, family, and friends. He loved to fish, enjoyed carpentry projects, and making gifts for family and friends. He was a member of the Moundville United Methodist Church and a member of the Mo-Kan Square Dance Club of Nevada.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Shirley, include two sons, Paul Hood, Kansas City, Mo., and Troy Shankel and his wife, Linda, Nevada; three stepsons, Rich Murray and Lisa Melton, Nevada, Mo., Greg Murray and his wife, Caryn, Pittsburg, Kan., and Travis Gossett and his wife, Kristin, Olathe, Kan.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Charlene; and one sister, Helen Louise McBride.

A memorial service following cremation will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, at the United Methodist Church of Moundville with the Rev. Kay Zimmer officiating. A committal service with military rites will follow at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan. Friends may call now and until 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
