Nevada volleyball defeats Stockton

STOCKTON, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tigers volleyball team had its hands full in a road match at Stockton High School Thursday night, but was ultimately able to overcome a series of errors to come out on top in two sets, adding another victory to its overall record.

"Tonight was not our best performance, but they were able to pull out the win in two," Lady Tigers head coach Ashley Thoreson said. "We made several errors and didn't play to our potential. We have been playing a lot of games and they looked tired, but I am pleased that we added another win to our record."

Stockton stayed withe Lady Tigers right from the outset of the match and on to the end. even forcing extra points in the second and final set. The Lady Tigers were ultimately able to hold on, however, and took the victory by the final scores of 25-20 and 26-24.

Regan Kannady led the Lady Tigers with six kills, while Sharla Quick recorded 10 digs. Rilie Good finished the night with a team-high six blocks and Morgan McNeley had 16 assists.

Nevada's junior varsity squad completed the sweep on the night, winning in two sets by the final scores of 27-25 and 25-18.

With that victory, the Lady Tigers' overall record improved to 8-3 on the season and Thoreson's squad is scheduled to get right back into action today as they head to the year's second varsity tournament at Carl Junction. Dual competition is set to resume Monday with a freshman, JV and varsity tripleheader at Joplin High School at 5 p.m.
