Mercy offering free glucose screenings

Saturday, November 10, 2012

Mercy Clinic Fort Scott will offer free glucose screenings from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 and Thursday, Nov. 15 in the Mercy Hospital lobby.

No appointment is necessary. Those who wish to be tested should refrain from eating or drinking 12 hours prior to the testing.

Glucose screen results are available within minutes, a news release said.

More than 5 million Americans have diabetes and don't know it. A blood glucose screen could identify a person's risk of diabetes, the release said. Left untreated, diabetes can cause heart and kidney disease, blindness and even death.

Other Mercy locations offering free blood glucose screenings throughout November include:

Mercy Hospital Joplin frp, 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Nov. 14
