Erma Lorene VanEvery, 90, died on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Oakridge Nursing Home, Plattsburg, Mo. She was born on July 22, 1922, in California, Mo., to Martin Monroe and Winnie Karr. On July 4, 1945, she married Edward VanEvery who preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2001.

After their marriage, Erma and Ed moved to northern Iowa where they farmed and raised a family. They lived in Iowa for more than 20 years and were active in the First Christian Church, 4-H Youth Club, and loved to play cards and entertain family at holiday dinners. Erma was known for the over-flowing dishes of hearty food and desserts for harvest crews and special occasions.

Erma and Ed moved to Independence, Mo., until Ed retired. They then moved to Nevada where they lived for more than 25 years. Erma loved tending her flower gardens. She was a graduate of Sheldon High School and she enjoyed having lunches with a group of classmates over the years.

Survivors include her son, Robert VanEvery and his wife, Pauline, of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter, Mary Roe, of Plattsburg; three sisters; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son; four brothers; and two sisters.

A visitation will be held at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, with a graveside service following at 2:30 p.m. in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Mo., with the Rev. David Rorabaugh officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
