Bob Mabry -- you will be missed

Nevada has lost a wonderful man. A fixture, really -- someone that everyone knew, in one way or another.

Bob Mabry was known to lots of local people as the man on the bicycle.

He'd always nod and say hello to anyone who greeted him. He was a good man, a nice man who collected daffodills every year and distributed them to various people; sometimes dropping them by businesses; sometimes dropping them off at booths at the annual home show. He picked up trash around town and along BB Highway where he lived. He even inspired others to use bicycles for transportation, I've been told many times, over the years. We'd see his familiar face at Griffons games and all over town. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Monday a woman who lives on BB Highway called to let us know he'd also been a wealth of information to neighbors about local history, changes in laws, that sort of thing. But most of all, she wanted the community to realize how great this man's contribution had really been; and that he'd be missed.

His body was found along BB Highway Friday morning; and it's yet to be determined just how Mr. Mabry died; we hope to learn of that, soon.

His funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. I, for one, plan to be there. We'll miss Mr. Mabry. And when I see daffodils along the roadside, I'll think of him.
