Court cases heard involving Beisly, girlfriend

Bob True Beisly III and his girlfriend, Joanna Roberts, came to 28th Circuit Court Thursday to answer charges related to their alleged mid-September bribery of two Vernon County jailers to smuggle marijuana and other contraband into the jail.

Beisly, 38, who has a prior conviction as a felon in possession of a firearm, heard Associate Circuit Court Judge Neal Quitno grant requests by his attorney, Brandon Fisher of Nevada, and County Prosecutor Lynn M. Ewing III to continue the cases until 1:30 p.m. Feb. 28.

Also representing the 28-year-old Roberts, of Deerfield, Fisher won a continuance Thursday afternoon of her Class C felony case of allegedly concealing prohibited articles on jail premises until 9 a.m. Jan. 18.

Beisly and Roberts are both awaiting pre-trial conferences, after which their not guilty pleas could go to separate jury trials. Roberts is free on bond.

Held in lieu of a $100,000 cash bond since last Independence Day, Beisly also has felony allegations pending of violating probation and "creating a substantial risk of serious injury of death" during a high speed chase with two Rich Hill policemen and deputies from Bates and Vernon counties in pursuit.

Officers reported last July 4 that they had taken Beisly and two other men into custody after their chase of a black pickup that Beisly drove at high speeds from Bates County into Vernon County.

The officers said they had recognized Beisly and knew that he was wanted in Vernon County for felony assault in a case in which he had allegedly driven a tractor over a car that was occupied at the time by a man and a juvenile.
