Hundreds benefit from toy, food giveaway

Nevada High School student council members helped with the food distribution coordinated by Community Outreach, held at the National Guard Armory, tuesday. Barbara Long, Community Outreach director, said the program provided food for more than 400 families, which is an increase of about 100 families from 2011. Long said the Salvation Army provided for 218 families; the Elks Lodge, 150 families; and the First Christian Church, 80 families. Gina Ensor, Nevada-Vernon County Chamber of Commerce director said they also collected coats for 80 people. She said that next year they plan to concentrate on collecting coats for teenagers and children.
