ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Cottey Comets improved to 9-0 on the season with an 82-70 overtime victory over the St. Louis Community College Lady Archers Saturday afternoon.

Second-year Comets Petra Stankovic and Blaklee Sanders teamed up to score 39 points during the second half and in the extra session to lead Cottey's rally from a 32-27 halftime deficit. The Comets led, 66-61, with 49 seconds remaining in regulation, only to see the Lady Archers tie the game on a 3-pointer by Chanese Washington and a steal and lay-up by Shakaunna Futrell.

Bailey Braden controlled the tip for Cottey to start the overtime and Sanders and Stankovic scored on three consecutive possessions to put Cottey in control for good. Sanders scored seven of her team-high 27 points during the overtime and Stankovic added 19 points of her own on top of a team-leading 13 rebounds.

Futrell led St. Louis with 27 points. The contest featured a total of 14 lead changes and eight ties and the biggest lead by either team in the game was Cottey's 82-70 advantage in the overtime.

As a team, the Comets shot just short of 42 percent (28-for-67), while the Archers finished the afternoon 28-for-93 (30 percent) from the field. Neither team was as productive as it could have been from the free-throw line as the Comets finished 21-for-34 to 16-for-25 for St. Louis.

Along with those 21 made buckets, the Comets recorded 18 assists. The Archers, on the other hand, managed just six assists to go with their 16 made baskets.

Where the Comets really gained an edge was in 3-pointers. Cottey made five of 16 shots from beyond the arc, while the Archers hit just two of 20.

The Comets won the turnover battle, but not by much. Head coach Dave Ketterman's squad committed a total of 18 turnovers in the contest, while forcing 20.

Much to the chagrin of Ketterman and his players, St. Louis dominated on the boards. The Archers finished with 64 rebounds -- 33 offensive -- to just 48 for Cottey.

Ketterman's Comets are scheduled to return to action against Wentworth Military Academy on Wednesday, at Lexington, Mo., before hosting the Penn Valley Lady Scouts, from Kansas City, at 1 p.m., Saturday afternoon in the gym at Hinkhouse Center. The Lady Archers are 10-4 after two consecutive losses and are scheduled to visit Cottey on Feb. 9.
