Dale G. Rich, of Route 3 Nevada, passed away Jan. 29, 2008, at 10:50 a.m., at St. John's Regional Medical Center, in Joplin, surrounded by his loving family. Dale was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Nevada, to the union of Roy and Vera Angelina Church-Rich. Dale had an older brother and sister who were twins, Derild Rich and Doris Rich Brown. After the death of his mother, his father remarried. Roy and Ruby Imler-Rich continued to raise their family in Nevada...

Washington, D.C. -- House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton, D, Mo., commended the Secretary of the Navy for announcing that a new Virginia class attack submarine will be named the USS Missouri. Beginning Feb. 7, television listings in the Nevada Daily Mail will have a whole new look and feel. Readers will now enjoy the convenience of daily prime-time listings in every edition. Thursday's weekly television listings will be discontinued. Nevada Daily Mail publisher Julie Righter said that in a recent survey, "many readers told us that their least favorite aspect of the newspaper is the weekly TV listings." Some of them even requested that the newspaper change them or do away with them altogether. ...

The Vernon County Commissioners office unanimously ruled to close budget hearings yesterday, which were in deliberation for almost a month prior. The commissioners voted to end the 2008 budget session after holding the final budget hearing in the Vernon County Commissioners office at the Vernon County Courthouse. ...

Nevada High School's four-member swim team placed 17th out of 21 teams Jan. 26 at the Springfield Invitational. More than 300 swimmers on teams averaging between 15 and 23 swimmers, from Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield, plus Joplin, Webb City and Carthage competed in the event. Individual events had between 50 and 78 swimmers per event...
