Juanita Catherine "Doodle" Foreman, 78, of Walker, Mo., passed away from this life Monday morning, Sept. 8, 2008, at her home north of Walker, after a tough battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 31, 1929, to Oscar Amor Ketterman and Selma Catherine Young Ketterman. She married Russell Lee Foreman on May 27, 1946, in Fort Scott, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 2002...

The Nevada Speedway Season Championship races were postponed due to rain on Saturday, Sept. 6. This year's track championship competition has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20. All classes will be a part of the championship event. The Midwest Late Model Racing Association races are still scheduled to take place at Nevada Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 13, and the Modified and Street Stock classes will also be in competition on the same night...

The Cottey Comets swept two games Saturday during a tri-match against the Fort Scott, Kan. Community College Lady Greyhounds and the Labette County, Kan. Community College Lady Cardinals, extending their record to 3-1. Cottey started the day with a 3-2 win over Labette County and finished with a 3-0 win over the Lady Greyhounds in the third match of the day. Truman fourth graders got a preview of the Missouri Osage Territory Muzzle Loaders at Marmaduke Park Friday. The group will have their fall shoot Saturday and Sunday at the park and the school took the opportunity to give the students some hands-on instruction in American history...
