Virginia Louise Volkman, age 75, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kan. Louise was born Jan. 6, 1934, to Thurman and Nancy Wallace. She retired from the Nevada State Hospital in 1996. Louise is survived by her husband of 57 years, Delbert Volkman; two daughters; Miki Pace, of Omaha, Neb., La., and Dottie Smith, of Nevada; one son Kenny Volkman, of Nevada; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother Wilbur Wallace of Augusta, Kan.; and one sister, Nancy Gruver, of Oregon. ...

Deloris Mae (Allen) Gayman, 70, rural Schell City, transitioned to the Church Triumphant on June 30, 2009. Deloris was born in Newhall, Calif., on Nov. 9, 1938, the third child born to Robert and Wilma Allen of Moundville, who along with a granddaughter preceded her in death...

Dale Haddix, 70, of Schell City, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, in Schell City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 10, at the Schell City Christian Church. The Nevada Griffons made their return to Lyons Stadium Tuesday night after more than a week on the road and came out of the night with their eighth straight win as they defeated the Ozark Generals by a final score of 8-5 in an up-and-down battle. The Nevada Red Sox AAA baseball team traveled to Joplin Monday night for a makeup contest and came home with a two-game split. In game one, Ryan Austin picked up the win on the mound as he pitched the first four innings.
