Family weekend in the Ozarks

Three weekends ago we "got out of Dodge" for a special weekend, by going to Conway, Ark., and to Branson. One local event I had intended to go to and regret that we were not available to attend was the McGennis Youth Center barbecue and auction, Virginia Habjan, vice-president of the board and Earl Rogers, past president and former board member, reported that the barbecue and auction went well. The seventh and eighth grade Tri-County volleyball tournaments began Monday night, in Nevada and Anderson, Mo. Head coach Trudy Fleeman's eighth graders defeated Joplin North in two games at Nevada, 25-17 and 25-5, and were to play Neosho at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday at Nevada Middle School. The Lady Knights of Northeast Vernon County High School swept the Miami Eagles in Monday night's varsity and junior varsity doubleheader. Short, Brauer qualify for Sectionals

The Nevada High School girls' tennis team recently completed its district tournament last week in Warrensburg, Mo., and was able to get a couple of strong performances and with them, a Sectional berth for two of head coach Sam Short's players. Katie Brauer and Katlyn Short moved on to Sectional play back in Warrensburg, with a second place finish in doubles play.
