It took less than five minutes for the Nevada City Council to unanimously pass on first and second readings an emergency ordinance approving an option agreement for the lease of a 67-acre parcel of land at the closed and capped Nevada City Landfill northeast of town to OCI Enterprises for the possible location of a four megawatt solar farm...

Seven candidates are vying for two seats on the Nevada City Council. the Nevada Daily Mail posed identical questions to each candidate. Due to space considerations, not all of their answers could be included in one issue. Profiles of three randomly selected candidates will be published today, and profiles of remaining candidates will be published in the Friday, Jan. 28 edition of the Nevada Daily Mail. In a Feb. 8 primary election, Nevada voters will narrow the field to four candidates.

National Vice Commander John M. Mella will be visiting several communities and Legion posts Jan. 27-30, and plans to be at the Leon Ogier Post No. 2 in Nevada, at 10:30 a.m., Jan. 30. Dixie Ann Brooks, 74, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at her home. Dixie was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Hume, Mo., the daughter of Russell Herbert and Edith Virgie Henley Brooks. She was a member of First Christian Church of Blue Springs, Mo., retired from Butler Manufacturing Company after 30 and 1/2 years of service...

Peggy Mae Wright, 61, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 1, 1950, in Nevada, to Charles Vernon Wright and Marian Lucille Etters Wright. Peggy grew up in Illinois and California. She graduated from Pioneer High School in San Jose, Calif., in 1968. ...

BUTLER, Mo. -- The Bears of Butler High School pulled out a narrow victory over the Nevada Tigers wrestling team Tuesday night at Butler High School. The Tigers rallied behind pin victories from Tanner Charles at 125 pounds, Kyle Bennett at 140 and Zach Shepherd at 145 and wins by default for Aaron Jenkins at 152 and heavyweight Sam Ellifrits, but didn't quite have enough to pull out the win as the Bears took a 40-36 victory...
