Floyd Augustus Werst, 73, Nevada, passed away Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at his home in Nevada. Floyd was born Feb. 1, 1938, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., to Warren Werst and Lillian Clemenson Werst. Floyd grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada High School where he played football and was given the nickname "Tank." Floyd worked at an early age delivering the Kansas City Star. ...

The Internal Revenue Service is warning of a scam in Missouri that promises a tax refund or rebate based on Social Security benefits. "We are seeing a scam that encourages seniors to file tax returns, for a fee, to get a refund on withholding from Social Security," explained IRS spokesman Michael Devine. "But because there was no withholding from the Social Security benefits, the return is false and the refund is neither allowed nor legitimate."...

Trued was in the process of moving in with her mother in another part of town but tearfully said "All of my good furniture was in there, all of my clothes." Dorothy Louise Swan, 92, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Joe Clark Residential Care in Nevada, following a brief illness. She was born May 1, 1919, in Richards, Mo., to Estelle Forest Moberly and Nellie Burris Moberly. She married Kenneth Swan on June 30, 1958, in Liberty, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 2008...
