Thelma V. (Cooper) Meritt, 100, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Christian Health Care in Nevada. She was born Oct. 19, 1911, near Ballard, Mo., in Bates County, Mo., to Dewitt T. Cooper and Jennie May Gartin Cooper. On Aug. 25, 1935, she married Forest E. Meritt in Nevada. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1996...

Fred Lyle Bishop, 64, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at his home in Nevada, Mo., following a lengthy illness. He was born on Dec. 6, 1947, in Foster, Mo., to Ule Bishop and Halene Louise Bishop Griner. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Steve Knoll officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan., with military honors...

Alan Lee Stidham was born on April 11, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, to Vinard and Hazel Stidham. He answered God's call to come home on Sept. 14, 2012. Alan Lee graduated from Phillipsburg High School in Ohio and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country for 21 years including two tours in Vietnam. He always greeted his fellow veterans with a handshake and a "Welcome Home."...
