Betty Lou (Mooney) Williams, 84, Independence, Mo., passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, Mo. She was born April 7, 1929, in Moundville, Mo., to Lawrence Winfred Mooney and Gracie Irene (Springer) Mooney. She married Eldon Allen Williams on Oct. 8, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2008...

Nevada City Council members Jayne Novak and Brian Leonard are adamant -- if you have property outside the Nevada city limits and want city water, sewer and other city services your property must first be annexed, unless it is not possible. If there is intervening property that is outside the city limits that was allowed to connect to the city sewers in the past that might be an exception, but the city should go to that intervening property owner and see if it can be annexed, Novak said in response to John Curtis withdrawing his request to have city services on property he owns that is outside the city limits. ...

Treasurer Ann Laudermilk presented a preliminary 2014 budget to the Bronaugh Board of Aldermen at its meeting Monday. Mayor Sherry Brown opted to allot funds to the city's government, water and sewer funds. "I think we should put $3,000 into the government fund for repairing city hall's windows," Brown said. A Bronaugh man was injured in a single car crash that happened about 3 p.m. Monday afternoon on Vernon County Road 1025 a half a mile north of Bronaugh. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Art Torbeck, Tyler L. Millman, 22, received moderate injuries when the northbound 2005 Dodge truck he was driving ran off the roadway and hit a tree. Millman was taken by ambulance to the Nevada Regional Medical Center...

A Moundville woman was injured during a single car crash that occurred on Younger Road two miles south of Bronaugh about 10:20 Monday morning. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Brian P. O'Sullivan, Tracy R. Thompson, 28, received minor injuries when the eastbound 2000 Ford Explorer she was driving ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned. Thompson was taken by ambulance to the Nevada Regional Medical Center...

The Vernon County Health Department has signed a contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to continue providing W.I.C. services in Vernon County for the federal fiscal year 2014. Under terms of the contract the Vernon County Health Department will be able to serve 599 persons eligible for W.I.C. every month...

At 6 a.m. Shirley Barnes, of Nevada, woke up to the pestering of the family 3 year old dog, Romeo. Romeo persistently whined and licked her face and hands in order to get her up on Nov. 1. Finally giving in, Barnes went into the living room, found her diabetic daughter, Valerie Wyatt, having seizures because of low blood sugar and promptly called for an ambulance...
