Maxine Urena, 73, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Freeman Hospital West, in Joplin, Mo. She was born on Dec. 23, 1940, in Avant, Okla., to Murray M. Mason and Ruby Tabor Mason. Maxine came to rural Nevada with her family at age 9. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1959, then began working for Vernon County Family Services the summer of 1959, where she worked until she retired in 1995. She enjoyed gardening, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren...

Daniel and Lauren Crawford, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and older siblings, Aidan and Marissa, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter and baby sister, Talyn Grace Crawford. Talyn was born at 5:58 a.m., Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and measured 19 inches...

On the defensive side, Will Johnson had seven rebounds and two blocked shots, and Coletan Shepard and Swearingen each had three steals...

ARCHIE, Mo. -- In the 84th annual Archie High School basketball tournament Monday night, the top-seeded Archie girls rolled to an 80-31 win over Hume, the second-seeded Adrian Lady Blackhawks outscored the Rich Hill Lady Tigers, 77-47, the top-seeded Rich Hill Tigers cruised to a 62-21 victory over the Hume Hornets and fourth-seeded Cass-Midway defeated Archie's boys, 34-18...

CLINTON, Mo. -- Two different halves unfolded for the Nevada Lady Tigers in their first-round game against Lebanon in the 36th annual Clinton Girls' Basketball Tournament, at Clinton High School, Monday night. The Lady Tigers led by as many as 17 points in the first half and enjoyed a 37-26 advantage at halftime before the Lady Yellowjackets came out of the locker room on fire in the third quarter and outscored Nevada, 24-7. ...

EL DORADO SPRINGS -- The Nevada Tigers junior varsity basketball team got back into action Monday, opening the El Dorado Springs Tournament against the host Bulldogs. In a contest that wasn't decided until the final buzzer, the Tigers fell just short, dropping a 53-51 decision. That loss dropped the Tigers into the tournament's loser's bracket...

The Nevada High School freshman boys' and girls' basketball teams got back into action at home Tuesday night, hosting the Liberators and Lady Liberators of Bolivar High School, and came out of the night with mixed results. Nevada won the boys' game by a final score of 51-24, but the girls weren't so fortunate, as they fell to Bolivar by a final score of 52-16...
