Delmar Ray Gilmore, 85, Milo, Mo., passed from this life on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada. Delmar was born on Oct. 11, 1930, to Ruben Andrew and Harriett Minerva (Fenton) Gilmore in Sandstone (Vernon County), Mo. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rebecca Belle Alexander. They were united in marriage on Dec. 17, 1955, in Nevada, and together they raised seven children...

Nancy D. Coffey, 81, Nevada, died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at her home in Nevada. Nancy was born April 1, 1935, to Elwood J. and Jennie (Wiles) Thorpe, in Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 22, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Ricky Walles officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home...

There was a time when the Vernon County High Schools, held an annual winter basketball tournament. The tournament was originally played in the old Nevada High School gym, and later in the new gym, following the high school fire in November of 1956. Even though I was a student at NHS, I, like many local patrons, attended and thoroughly enjoyed watching those schools compete each year...

The Nevada Neptunes recently traveled to Monett for the Tri-State "A" Swim Finals, with the season-ending meet held at the Ginny and Chris Fuldner Family Aquatic Center. The two-day indoor event featured 12 tri-state teams and approximately 367 swimmers, including 36 from Nevada. The Neptunes are coached by Karen Claypool, and assistant coaches Samantha Short, Shelby Thorns, Thomas Prewitt, and Tayler Matthews...

The Nevada Lady Tigers unofficially opened its 2016 season Saturday at the McDonald County Softball Jamboree. While there, the Lady Tigers matched up against host McDonald County High School and East Newton, playing a pair of four inning contests. Nevada assistant coach Danny Penn said the score was not kept for either game, but added that he was pleased with the Lady Tigers performance at the jamboree...

Nine-year-old Emree Cameron of Nevada, netted the top score in the sub-regional stage of PGA's Drive Chip and Putt competition, held Aug. 13 in Omaha, Neb.
