New Youth Director at YMCA

The Osage Prairie YMCA recently welcomed a new Youth Program Director, Jay Allen. “I’ve been in the kid business 33 years. I’ve been a PE teacher, science teacher, weights, health. I am a big believer in exercise for kids — get them involved in something they truly love to do. Today’s age kids want to sit down and be on the Xbox or computer and its tough for parents to get them out of that routine, but hopefully I can come here and really offer some good programs for the kids.”...

Gardeners and gleaners make plans

A dozen people were on hand at the meeting room at Healthy Nevada on Monday as plans were made for this year’s community gardens and gleaning efforts. Barbara Long, Director of Community Outreach began the meeting by saying, “Before I turn this over to Rachel Hansen to lead our meeting, I just want to thank all of you. This is just our fourth year but I want all of you to know what you are doing is making such a huge difference in the lives of so many people in this area.”...

John Douglas Partee, 61, died on March 28, in Kansas City, Mo. John was born April 7, 1955, in Santa Ana, Calif., to Charles Douglas and Flora Maxine (Mason) Partee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home...
