The Bronaugh Lady Wildcats topped Baxter Springs (Kan.) 37-24 in a non-conference home contest on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Bronaugh boys team was tripped up by Baxter, 75-22. In the opener, the Lady ’Cats led 10-5 entering the second, and 19-13 at the conclusion of a low-scoring first half. The Nevada Tiger wrestling team showcased its skills in front of a large home contingent, holding its first meet of the season, Tuesday evening at Nevada Middle School. Hosting Carl Junction, Diamond, and Columbus (Kan.), Nevada won one of its three matches, chalking up a dominant 51-34 victory over Diamond. Nevada was then edged by Columbus, 34-33 on a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker went to the eighth criteria — the team that scored the first points in more matches, and that fell Columbus’ way...

A pair of former Nevada High School wrestling stars, Chip Balk and Eric Denney, were inducted into the school’s Wall of Fame during Tuesday’s quadrangular meet at Nevada Middle School. Balk, who starred on the mat for NHS from 1981-85, currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas...

Kenneth Lee Jones, born in Rich Hill, died suddenly on Jan. 28, in Keller, Texas. He was 77 years old. He was born on Dec. 23, 1940, to Carley and Alta (Swope) Jones of Rich Hill, one of eight children. Ken was a veteran of the United States Navy and was employed by RadioShack for 50 years, retiring as the company’s most tenured employee in 2017. Ken was a loving husband, father, granddad, brother, uncle and cousin. He was loved by all who had the honor of meeting him...

Robert Earl Holland, of St. James, Mo., passed away on Dec. 23, 2017, in Jefferson City, Mo. He was 67 years, six months and 15 days of age. Robert Earl Holland was born on June 11, 1950, to his parents Floyd E. and Gladys Cliffman Holland in Nevada...

The pre-K and kindergarten classes from St. Mary’s School took part in a Superheroes of Kindness mission to deliver paper goods to the Moss House on Wednesday. The group delivered two carts worth of supplies to the charity.
