The Nevada Lady Tiger wrestling team had two sectional qualifiers, Taylor Thompson and Claire Pritchett. Thompson, however was unable to wrestle due to an injury sustained in the district tournament. Pritchett, a returning state medalist, Nevada’s first female medalist, would have to battle through adversity to obtain her state ticket...

Nevada High School junior Laura Kimmell failed to advance beyond the preliminary round in the 1-meter diving event at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 1 Girls Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday in St. Peters. Kimmell qualified for state with the 24th best score on the season out of 24 entrants — and finished her first trip there with a prelim score of 124.30, good enough for 23rd overall...

The Northeast Vernon County High School boys basketball team saw its season end Saturday in the first round of the Class 1 District 7 tournament at McAuley Catholic. The Warriors cruised into the next round with a 62-40 win over the Knights. Sophomore Kylan Bachand led NEVC (4-11) with 18 points...

The Sheldon High School boys basketball team kept the score low — and thus close — in its Class 1 District 7 opener Saturday at Hume. But in the end, the sixth-seeded Panthers missed too many shots and committed too many turnovers to keep the score close enough for an upset — falling 46-32 to the Hornets, who were the No. 3 seed...

BRONAUGH — Bronaugh's Lady Wildcats crushed the Sheldon Lady Panthers 62-20 at home Monday evening advancing them to 14-7 for the season, and to round two, in Class 1 District 7 tournament. The Lady Cats took a commanding 17-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Cats pulled away in the second quarter finishing 38-14 at the half.  Scoring slowed in the second half with Bronaugh outscoring Sheldon 13-6 in the third and 11-0 in the fourth...

It may not have been senior night for the Nevada High School girls basketball team against McDonald County Monday (the Lady Tigers celebrated that earlier this season), but Tylin Heathman, one of the team’s two upperclassmen, stepped up like it was her final home game anyway...

Nevada High School’s Logan Applegate celebrated senior night from downtown Monday, sinking a career-high 10 3-pointers — including several from NBA range — to lead the Tigers in a 78-53 win over McDonald County. Applegate, who technically was inside Wynn Gymnasium all evening, missed only a couple of the seemingly countless long-range shots he put up against the Mustangs’ rather hopeless box-and-one defense. ...

Maxine Newlon of Muskogee, Okla., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021. She was born and raised in Guthrie, Okla., on Sept. 11, 1923, to Harry and Ruby Campbell. She attended Guthrie public schools. She received her B.M. degree in violin and viola from Oklahoma College for women in Chickasha, Okla., (currently USAO). She received her M.M. degree in viola from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University...
