Nevada man dies in weekend crash near Bolivar

A Nevada man, Colan Arvin, 21, was killed in a fiery traffic accident near Bolivar Saturday morning. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway patrol, Arvin was headed east on Highway 32, about five miles east of Bolivar, when the 1999 Ford F450 he was driving crossed the centerline and struck a 1997 International truck driven by a Boliver man, 43-year-old David Rouch. Both vehicles overturned and Arvin's vehicle erupted into flames. Arvin was taken to the Citizen's Memorial Hospital in Bolivar where he was pronounced dead at 10:14 a.m. A passenger in the truck Arvin was driving, Jered Moore, 20, Nevada was taken to Citizen's Memorial Hospital in Boliver with moderate injuries as was Rouch. According to the patrol, as of 8 a.m. this morning, there have been 87 traffic fatalities in Missouri so far this month, and 643 traffic deaths so far this year, a one percent decrease when compared with the statewide traffic statistics from the same period, last year. Others lost their lives in Missouri traffic accidents over the weekend. On Sunday, 19-year-old Catherine Henry was killed when her vehicle crossed the median on I-70 about 30 miles east of Columbia and struck another vehicle. A 63-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl from Chicago have died after the vehicle they were riding in ran off Interstate 55 in the Bootheel, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Mildred Arumore, 63, and Brittany Milburn, 8, died in the crash around 12:45 p.m. Monday when their vehicle ran off the left side of the road, struck a guard rail and overturned one mile north of the Arkansas state line, the patrol said. In another Sunday tragedy, 57-year-old Howard Smith, St. Louis, was killed when his vehicle left the roadway, then he overcorrected, crossing the median on I-55 in eastern Missouri, according to a report from the patrol. In another incident, 77-year-old George McPherson of Winfield was killed in a crash on Sunday. He was northbound on highway 79 when his vehicle exited the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned.
