Residents turn out for NRMC open house on June 29

Wednesday, July 2, 2003

Citizens took advantage of the opportunity to get a peek at the new facilities Nevada Regional Medical Center has to offer, during an open house conducted on Sunday, June 29. Tours were conducted of the hospital's new $15 million patient tower. The hospital was first constructed in 1937, and since then has been renovated multiple times, with additions constructed in 1950, 1970, 1972 and 1996. The ribbon cutting for the most recent addition -- which was motivated by "increased patient demand," according to a press release from the hospital -- was conducted during the open house. Phil Vinyard, president of the NRMC board of directors, Robert Ohlen, NRMC president and CEO; and Brian Deem, M.D., chief of medical staff, were featured as speakers. The new, three story tower provides 41 large rooms with private, handicapped-accessible restrooms. The first floor houses and expanded emergency department, a medical mall, a gift shop and the outpatient wing. Obstetrics also now has private birthing suites with in-room whirlpool baths. The project was funded with tax-free hospital revenue bonds.
