Lions Club awards banquet draws crowd

A substantial number of local Lions gathered Tuesday evening for a changing of the guard at the annual Nevada Lions Club Installation Banquet. After a short performance of songs from the CCPA 2002-2003 President Aaron Rains spoke on what the Nevada Lions Club has accomplished in the last year. Not only were the Lions able to bring their club out of a membership slump and were also able to install a new septic system for the fairgrounds clubhouse. The prestigious Lion of the Year award was given to George Hold by last year's winner Rick Williams. Hold was honored and humble about winning the award, saying: "I really didn't do anything more than anybody else." The banquet was also the site of the final drawing for a Lions Club raffle of a BBQ grill. It was won by Tammy beach New officers were announced. They are Rick Williams, first vice president; Sue Quitno, second vice president; and Andy Remington, third vice presidents for 2003-04. The new Tail Twister is Shirlee Mayfield and the Lion Tamers are Leonard Ernsbarger and John Atkinson. On the one -year board are Jeff Post and Mike Turnbull and on the two- year board are Tim Holmes and Monte Curtis. The secretary is Shirley Conley and the treasurer is Wayne Reinert. The new Nevada Lions Club President for 2003-04 is Greg Hoffman. "I'm very proud to be a Lion," said Hoffman. He appreciates what the Lions stand for and feels that since receiving corneal transplants through the Lions' eyebank that he is the personal benefactor of the Lions' eye care program.
