Nevada Daily Mail NEOSHO, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tiger softball team suffered a five-inning shutout loss to Neosho on Tuesday. Neosho, perennially one of the top teams in the Southwest Conference, broke the game wide open with seven runs in the fourth inning. Senior hurler Jessica Self took care of the rest, blanking the Tigers on one hit, a fifth-inning single by Courtney Hinkle. Junior Whitney Smith took the loss for Nevada (1-5, 0-4). Smith yielded 14 hits and walked three with no strikeouts. On the bright side, Nevada coach Chris Garzone was pleased with the Tigers' defensive effort. Centerfielder Hinkle turned in several nice defensive catches, including a nice diving grab in left-center field. The Tigers seek their first-ever home win when they entertain the El Dorado Bulldogs on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. "Those games are very important for us," said Garzone, "because El Do is a team we can compete with." In junior varsity action, the Tigers fell 13-3 to Neosho. Brittany Pettiton led the offense with a 2-for-3 day, while Brea Hughes, Tiffany Cartwright, Carla Drake and Kaci Kurtz had one safety each.
