Vernon County shooters win state

Nevada Daily Mail COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Vernon County 4-H Shooting Teams won top honors at the Missouri State 4-H Shoot on Saturday. Kyle Cushard shot a perfect 50 hits in 50 attempts to lead Vernon County to first place in the senior division. Cushard won individual Top Champion honors in the field of more than 700 shooters. Joining Cushard on the championship team were near-perfect John Whitworth (49/50), Heath Scotten (48/50), Tyler Greer (48/50) and Derek Minor 45/50). Whitworth finished fourth overall in the individual standings. The Vernon County team of Aaron Greer (22/25), Ethan Baldwin (21/25), Kevin Lee (21/25), Megan Westerhold (20/25) and Josh Jeffries (19/25) tied for first place in the junior division. "The Sheldon Trap Club and Vernon County Shooting Sports are very proud of the members shooting accomplishments," said Deon Cox. "They worked hard all year to go to Columbia and do well at this shoot. Their hard work and dedication paid off in the end. Their leaders, Belinda Chadd, Ron Amick and Mary Scotten worked well together for this accomplishment."
