Main Street tournament draws heavy out-of-town participation

Tuesday, August 26, 2003

Main Street Nevada held its sixth annual golf tournament at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course on Saturday.

The format was an 18-hole mixed couple scramble with 31 teams entered.

Wayne Reinert, tournament organizer, said, "Of the 31 teams that entered, 21 were from out of town and we really appreciate the support they gave us.

"We're going to work on our local people a little harder next year and hopefully build more local interest, as well as, try to increase the number of out-of-towners to bring in a few more teams and hopefully grow to about a 40-team tournament and make it even bigger and better."

Teams from Adrian, Mo., Pleasanton, Kan., Clinton, Mo., Bartlesville, Okla., Collins, Mo., Carthage, Mo., Joplin, Mo., Carl Junction, Mo. and Wheatland, Mo., were among the participants.

The mixed-couple scramble, a unique format in the area, drew positive reviews.

Said Reinert, "We had a lot of people come up and say 'Thank you for having that type of tournament, because not a lot of courses have that format,' so we're going to try to expand on that in years to come."
